  • bobby

    Bobby

Bobby was abandoned on a local housing estate.Neighbours became concerned about her and fed her everyday. They also repeatedly made contact with the owner who had moved house. Each week she told them that she would collect Bobby.

Time went by and it became obvious that the owner had no intention of collecting her. Nobody on the estate would take Bobby in, so she was brought to the Sanctuary. She was pregnant and gave birth to six lovely kittens two days later. Bobby loves sleeping in the feed room on the hay and climbs to the top of the bales where she sits observing the other cats.

  • Manxie

    Manxie

Meet Manxie, another one of our strays. He’d been fed for many years by a kindly couple, but when they planned to emigrate to America they were very concerned about Manxie’s future, in case no one else would continue to feed him. They asked us to care for him here at the Sanctuary. When he arrived his white coat was dirty, thick and matted. He looked like a very tired and elderly cat. Because he was very fearful of human contact we put him into the quiet part of the Sanctuary, where volunteers spent many hours with him, making him feel safe. This is him today, a very clean and tidy cat who loves to sit on your knee. What a difference!

  • Iris

    Iris

We had a call from a concerned friend of a gentleman who was in ill health and finding it difficult to cope with all his cats. When we went to help, he asked that we take the un–neutered ones, and there were ten of them. They were neutered and came to the Sanctuary. Iris was one of them. The months went by and Iris still kept her distance, preferring to remain out of sight. How happy were we when she decided to come into the cattery! We quickly learnt to ignore her so she would stay. It took several months for her to feel relaxed enough to enjoy being brushed and have her photo taken. She is certainly a very pretty cat, and though she may not always be around when visitors call, she would love to be sponsored.

  • Hector

    Hector

Was wandering around the Bride countryside for many months. We knew he was fighting and was injured, but we couldn’t catch him. Luckily for him he started visiting a house where the owner fed him and soon we were able to pick him up. We took him straight to our vet as he needed treatment for his wounds, and then he came back to the Sanctuary. We’re pleased to say he has settled in very well and so far he’s keeping out of trouble! Hector is a very handsome Manx cat. Would you like to sponsor him?

  • Dermot

    Dermot

One morning we had a call from a very concerned lady. Her neighbours had moved and their cat was still outside the house. That should have been an easy thing to do, reunite cat with owner. But sadly for this forgotten cat that wasn’t to be. His owners had left the Isle of Man, leaving him behind with their rubbish. He was brought to the Sanctuary where he was scanned for a micro-chip, but none was found. He is another very handsome Manx Rumpie (no tail at all). He’s settled in very quickly and seems to like it here, and we called him Dermot. He’d love you to become a sponsor and a new friend.

  • Missie

    Missie

Missie is a lovely little cross-eyed cat. She is about six years old and was given to us with her sister. Both cats came into the Sanctuary with six kittens each, having been allowed to breed for all those years with no consideration to their health or the future of so many kittens.

  • Sugar

    Sugar

Sugar came into the Sanctuary as a young cat infested with fleas and worms and he also had a very serious ear infection. It took several months before he was back to good health but unfortunately it has left him deaf and his head is tilted to one side. Sugar will remain at the Sanctuary where his favourite pastime is climbing a very brittle Hawthorn tree!

  • Bradley

    Bradley

The day came when Bradley’s family had another child and there was no longer any more room for him to stay at home with them all. He was three years old when he came to live here, but before that he’d always been a house cat, living in a flat and never going outside. It took many weeks for him to settle into his new life. But now he has, he enjoys the freedom to roam outside and the freedom to return to a comfy seat by the fire here at the Sanctuary. As you can see by his picture Bradley is a most handsome cat, and he would love to be sponsored.

  • Sox

    Sox

Sox was abandoned and lived in a garage in Jurby where she had been making a nuisance of herself by sitting under the garage owner’s bird table. As he was a keen bird lover he decided that Sox would have to go. We put a description of the cat out on the radio in the hope of finding her owner, sadly no one came forward to claim her. We collected Sox and settled her in at the Sanctuary. She is very happy here and spends most of her time watching the ducks on our duck pond.

  • Turnip

    Turnip

Little Turnip was found by a farmer in a field of turnips! He was all alone and starving. The farmer put Turnip in a sack and brought him to the sanctuary on his tractor in the hope that we would take this sad little bundle in. Turnip has recovered from his ordeal and is settled here, he loves his freedom and his favourite pastime is to roam the Sanctuary grounds, climbing trees and swinging off the branches.

  • Sophie-Rosebud

    Sophie-Rosebud

Came to us with what we thought was a skin disorder. However, our vet found a deep stab wound in her neck. Sophie Rosebud had to have two operations and was hospitalised for ten days. Six months later this is how she looks – happy and well adjusted. Seeing her now it is difficult to remember how she was.

  • Zorro

    Zorro

This gorgeous boy came to us as his owners were leaving the Island to go and work in a remote part of Africa with Chimpanzees. Zorro is an independent boy and he settled into his new life well. He adores the sunshine and will spend all his time sprawled outside during sunny days. He would love a sponsor.

  • Arran

    Arran

Arran and his family were very lucky to be found, it was only the pitiful cries of the kittens that alerted a dog walker to their plight. Arran and three eight week old kittens and their mother had been unceremoniously dumped in a cardboard box on a remote camping site in the North of the Island. Scrawled across the box were the words ‘Please look after these Cats’. The dog walker telephoned the Sanctuary asking for advice, due to the fact that the cats were very cold and wet and we didn’t know how long they had been exposed to the wind and rain, we asked him to rush them to our vet in Ramsey. At the vets Arran was examined and although he was soaking wet and very shaken he showed no ill effects. The kittens were dried and placed on heated mats and given food, and within 24 hours they were up and scrambling around.

  • Snowdrop

    Snowdrop

Snowdrop was found as a small kitten, starving, very underweight and very dirty, her coat was matted and her paws were cut and bleeding. It seems she had been scavenging in rubbish bins, as small as she was. When she was picked up and delivered to the Sanctuary she seemed content to eat and sleep in the warm. We have now tested her hearing and found out that she is totally deaf, which is the case with many ‘all white’ cats. It made the job of finding Snowdrop a good home very difficult, and as she is now well, and enjoying her life here we have decided that for her safety she should stay at the Sanctuary.

  • Monty

    Monty

Monty is a very large cat who was bought in a London pet shop by a couple from the Island, who were working in the city. Monty lived in a flat for a few years and because he was not getting any exercise, he became quite obese. His owners have now emigrated to Australia so Monty lives at the Sanctuary. He is now enjoying his freedom and has lost quite a lot of weight.

  • Hector

    Jessie

Jessie is a very lucky cat. He was found by a dog being exercised in a field in Braddan. He was lying down soaking wet with very serious injuries which had made it impossible for him to get help. His recovery took many weeks and sadly we never found an owner for him.
