Bella

Bella is a Shetland pony and came to live at the sanctuary in the winter of 2023 at the age of fourteen. She is around 11 hands high and had been very neglected, coming to us in a very poor condition. She was very underweight, both of her eyes were infected and hadn’t been treated. Her teeth were also sore and her hooves hadn’t be cared for so it was very painful for her whenever she walked or moved. To accommodate Bella, we had to move the turkeys to a new location and someone very kindly sponsored a new shed for them. This opened up a stable, which was also a small storage area so the stable was very quickly and easily made into one large space and Bella was ready to move in. We covered the floor of the stable in rubber matting to go underneath her bedding so that it would protect her sore feet. When she arrived, we wormed her, treated her eyes and mouth and the farrier saw to her feet. After a good clean she looked like a different pony!
Bella quickly got into a routine mixing with our other residents and now shares a stable with Lola. She is exceptionally cheeky, a trait in Shetlands but none of us mind that here! She can also move very well now, and can often be seen joining in a with a gallop around the field with our other ponies, Lola and Lulu! Would you like to sponsor our cheeky, contented Shetland pony?
